Conserving the Climate: Scaling-Up Global Markets for Forest Cargon

چکیده
The Climate Policy Program at Resources for the Future (RFF) provides a framework for policymakers and stakeholders to better understand and address one of the most complex environmental issues of our time: climate change. The program has two core objectives: to develop domestic policies that are politically and economically viable and to articulate a new architecture for a global climate policy regime. Program scholars work to both support current policy efforts as well as fostering the evolution of these policies over time by making economic analysis more usable and facilitating decisionmaker involvement in developing new tools. Progress in Global Surgery; Comment on “Global Surgery – Informing National Strategies for Scaling Up Surgery in Sub-Saharan Africa”
Impressive progress has been made in global surgery in the past 10 years, and now serious and evidence-based national strategies are being developed for scaling-up surgical services in sub-Saharan Africa. Key to achieving this goal requires developing a realistic country-based estimate of burden of surgical disease, developing an accurate estimate of existing need, deve...
متن کاملEconomic incentives for rain forest conservation across scales.
Globally, tropical deforestation releases 20 to 30% of anthropogenic greenhouse gases. Conserving forests could reduce emissions, but the cost-effectiveness of this mechanism for mitigation depends on the associated opportunity costs. We estimated these costs from local, national, and global perspectives using a case study from Madagascar. Conservation generated significant benefits over loggin...
متن کاملGlobal Surgery – Redirecting Strategies for a Global Research Agenda; Comment on “Global Surgery – Informing National Strategies for Scaling Up Surgery in Sub-Saharan Africa”
More than three years have passed since the publication of the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and its recommendations on scaling up surgery in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). An important gap, the voice of the districts as well as lack of contextualized research, has been noted in its support of national surgical plans that run the risk of being at best, aspirational. Moreover, a ‘one-size-fits-...
متن کاملNational and Regional Climate Change Impact Assessements in the Forestry Sector - Workshop Summary and Abstracts of Oral and Poster Presentations
3 Abstract Climate change is likely to affect forests and the forest industry during the 21 st century. Different processes in forest ecosystems and the forest sector are sensitive to climate and many different projects have been conducted, in which the scale of study varied from the individual leaf to the whole globe. Several attempts have been made to link impact models (e.g., ecological and ...

Surgery has the potential to address one of the largest, neglected burdens of disease in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), especially in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery (LCoGS) has provided a blueprint for a systems approach to making safe emergency and elective surgery accessible and affordable and has started to enable African governments to develop n...
